March Letter from the Editor

Hello fellow ‘Eaters,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the 2016-17 Maneater editor-in-chief and managing editors (there are two!). Jared Kaufman, who was one of our copy chiefs last semester, ran unopposed with current Production Manager Christy Prust and Copy Chief George Roberson. This is a strong trio and they have my full support and appreciation for their devotion to The Maneater. Looking forward, the new exec will have a month to learn about their new positions. Handing over the reins will be undoubtedly strange for me and Managing Editor Katherine Knott, but we are confident they will do great things.

In other news, film director Spike Lee paid a visit to MU’s campus a few weeks ago to film a documentary on Concerned Student 1950 titled “2 Fists Up” to be released May 31. ESPN requested several of The Maneater’s photos for the documentary, which we were able to sell to them in time to be in the documentary! It’s pretty exciting. Photo Editor Jordan Kodner, Katherine and I have been in contact with a person from ESPN for the past couple of weeks making sure everything is good to go.

The Photo Department also just had a request approved by Student Fee Capital Improvement Committee for more camera equipment, as some of our current devices are outdated. The entire staff, not just photo, is excited for this new equipment to come in, which should be anytime now.

There’s a lot of exciting things happening here at The Maneater as we wrap up this whirlwind year. Here’s to the last couple weeks. Cheers!

— Elizabeth Loutfi, editor-in-chief
